Sandton, South Africa-The Metro FM Awards Nominees 2024 event was a spectacle that lit up Sandton, bringing together the country’s musical elite for a night of celebration and recognition. From well-known media figures to beloved celebrities, the event drew a diverse crowd, all eager to honor the nation’s musical talent.

One star who stole the spotlight was Tyla, an acclaimed singer and Grammy winner, with an impressive six nominations for her hit track ‘Water.’ Her recognition on home soil reaffirmed her status as a powerhouse in the music industry, showcasing her immense talent and influence.

Fashion Force Africa had the privilege of speaking with several nominees, offering a glimpse into the creative minds shaping South Africa’s music scene. Among them was the versatile Aymos, a nominee across multiple categories, and Heavy-K, affectionately known as the drum boss, who added an extra layer of excitement to the event.

The evening was filled with electrifying performances, including sets by Aymos, Da LES, and the rising star Lwah Ndlunkulu, captivating the audience with their infectious energy. As anticipation mounted for the Amapiano category, fans eagerly awaited the announcement of the nominees, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Kina Nhlengethwa, Business Manager at the awards, underscored the event’s significance as a celebration of South African music’s diverse tapestry. More than just a glamorous affair, the awards provide a vital platform for artists to showcase their talents, propelling the industry forward with innovation and creativity.

The newly forged partnership between MetroFM and the Motsepe Foundation, in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, amplifies the event’s importance, signaling a shared commitment to advancing excellence within the music industry.

The collaboration brings added excitement to the awards, with winners in each category receiving cash prizes. Notably, the Song of the Year recipient will be granted a substantial sum courtesy of the Motsepe Foundation, further elevating the prestige of the accolade.

This year’s event witnessed an unprecedented number of entries, surpassing 1,700 submissions across various categories. Reflecting the dynamic and vibrant landscape of South African music, the nominations encompassed music singles and albums released between February 28, 2023, and February 28, 2024.

The event concluded with a jubilant celebration of talent and achievement, as nominees reveled in their well-deserved recognition. Looking ahead to the Metro FM Music Awards in April, music enthusiasts can expect an unforgettable showcase of South Africa’s top talent, promising a night of musical brilliance and innovation.
