Fashion Exhibition in Solidarity with the WaterDays Conference at the 1st Edition of the EuroAfrica Biennial.

Montpellier,France : On October 9 and 10, fashion enthusiasts and defenders of sustainable water management gathered at the Corum in Montpellier for the WATERDAYS conference as part of the EUROAFRICA Biennale.
To support water sustainability, the Masion de l’Afrique Australe hosted a fashion exhibition, a visual feast for fashion lovers, highlighting the work of South African designers while raising awareness of the close connection between fashion and responsible management of water resources.

In a world increasingly aware of the environmental impact of various industries, fashion has come under scrutiny for its consumption of resources, particularly water.
At the heart of the conference, the exhibition took center stage with three exceptional creators:

Mzukisi Mbane from Imprint: Celebrating the stories and glamor of our African ancestors with a very modern and futuristic twist.
Mpumelelo Dhlamini by Ezokhatho: a luxury contemporary African clothing brand that aims to tell African stories using fabric as a medium.
Lesedi from Seditsi Collection: Lesedi brought a new perspective to South African fashion with a focus on inclusion.
Water scarcity is a global concern, and the fashion industry is a large consumer of this precious resource. From fabric dyeing to textile processing, water is an integral part of the production process. Maison de l’Afrique Australe shed light on this issue and encourage a more responsible approach to fashion.

Furthermore, beyond its primary objectives of celebrating fashion and raising awareness of resource management, this exhibition undertook the strategic initiative of positioning Maison de l’Afrique Australe for the year 2024. Another objective is to gain support from sponsors to establish a dedicated platform for the growth of creators in the city, surrounding region and wider department.

An essential aspect of this endeavor is the production of a comprehensive program including a fashion show, an exhibition and a series of master classes. This visionary venture marks a substantial step forward in promoting the local fashion industry and nurturing emerging talents within it.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Les Hopes of the Heart association for their generous sponsorship, which made this event possible. Their support demonstrates a commitment to the arts and environmental sustainability, and we are truly grateful for their partnership.
The event was a resounding success and celebrated not only South African fashion, but also the importance of responsible resource management in the fashion industry. It demonstrated the power of creativity and collaboration to tackle global challenges and left a lasting impression on all participants.
