In a remarkable showcase of creativity and innovation, the UPCYCLE launch exhibition took place at Makers Landing, V&A Waterfront. Presented by global property development company JLL and its subsidiary, interior design firm Tétris Design and Build, UPCYCLE mesmerized attendees with its exploration of circular design and its potential to shape more conscious workspaces.

Attendees were treated to a captivating array of repurposed and upcycled office furniture, each piece a testament to the transformative power of sustainable design. From the imaginative creations of Congolese artist Patrick Bongoy to the innovative solutions by Ananta Design Studio founders Viveka and Rucita Vassen, the exhibition showcased the ingenuity of designers committed to reducing waste and promoting environmental stewardship.

Each participant brought their unique perspective and expertise to the exhibition, offering visitors a wide range of insights into the potential of circular design. From innovative furniture solutions to creative reinterpretations of traditional materials, UPCYCLE promises to inspire attendees to rethink their approach to workspace design and consumption.

Throughout the event, visitors had the opportunity to engage with the creators behind the designs, gaining valuable insights into their creative process and the principles driving their work. Discussions centered around the importance of sustainability in today’s design landscape and the role that circularity can play in shaping a more eco-conscious future.

The exhibition is open to the public from April 19 to 20, 2024, with a special student-focused day on the 19th and a walkabout with the artists and designers on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00, led by Heath Nash of Circular Squared. Entrance was free, allowing attendees of all backgrounds to explore and engage with the inspiring displays.

With thought-provoking installations and thoughtfully curated displays, UPCYCLE challenged attendees to reconsider their approach to workspace design and consumption. By showcasing the beauty and functionality of upcycled furniture, the exhibition inspired a renewed appreciation for the potential of circular design to drive positive change.
